Major upgrades to existing expressways and trunk roads will reduce journey times within towns and to other parts of Singapore. These include improvements and road widening at Loyang Avenue, and junction improvements along the Tampines Expressway (TPE). The East Coast Parkway will also be enhanced to cater for future expansions of Changi Airport. There will also be localised road improvements to reduce congestion in built-up areas such as Simei, to accompany the expansion of Changi General Hospital.
As part of URA's plans to bring jobs closer to home. Tampines was developed as a regional centre, providing residents with more office and retails jobs in the1r neighbourhood. The East is also home to major employment hubs like Changi Business Park and other industrial area as well as Changi Airport. More jobs will continue to be created In the East through the development of new job centres across the region. Together with new rail lines being implemented like the Downtown Line, residents will also be better connected to their workplaces.
The East Region will boast three expanded intra-town cycling routes at Tampines, Pasir Ris and Bedok. These routes will provide a convenient and continuous network of cycling paths within the three towns, linking housing, amenities, and workplaces, as well as providing residents with more transport choices. There will also be cycling routes to allow cyclists to move between towns and major parks such as East Coast Park, Pasir Ris Park and Bedok Reservoir Park.
